This blog deals with digital culture and new media. It focuses primarily on new developments in the area of search engines and the relating aspects of surveillance and data protection. Another focus is knowledge media – the development, provision and use of knowledge online.

Theo Röhle is a PhD candidate in media culture at Hamburg university. His dissertation seeks to establish Actor-Network-Theory and Foucauldian concepts of power within search engine research.

Julie Woletz is concluding her dissertation on interface theory at the intersection of computer science and media / cultural studies at Frankfurt university. She is a founding member of the Frankfurt-based Forschungsnetz Anthropologie des Medialen, FAMe Frankfurt.
